Thanks to a long list of pros and a hard-working corps of volunteers, the final tally of donations to the 2005 Challenge of the Stars Benefit Fundraiser was $15,515.00. Organized by Billiard Education Foundation President Tom Riccobene and BCA Associate Director of Trade Services and Development Tracy Hart, the special benefit supports the work and programs of the foundation, year-round, including a generous series of academic scholarships [ Scholarship Program ].

{mosimage}Held in conjunction with the BCA Open 9-Ball Championships in Las Vegas, the Challenge the Stars event drew then-defending champions Tony Robles and Karen Corr, along with WPBA top-names Allison Fisher (later the event champion), Jeanette Lee, Loree Jon Jones and Ewa Laurance. Also on the star-studded list of personalities was Charlie Bryant, Denny Coulter, Julie Kelly, Myriam LaFranchise, Tiffany Nelson, Jasmin Ouschan, Paul Potier, Mona Remedios, Kim Shaw, Laura Smith, Vivian Villareal and Ceri Worts. Special celebrity appearances were also enjoyed by recent Hall of Famer Mike Massey, Tom "Dr. Cue" Rossman and "Okinawa Slim."

Funds were raised through the challenge itself and associated raffles by Connelly Billiards (with a table auction at the BCA Open) and via Peg Ledman and her crew for donations from the Imperial/Aramith ball auction and Cuetec cue raffle.

The many benefit activities were kept on track by Texan Randy Goettlicher, and New Mexico volunteers Paul Hargrave, Shanna Lewis and John Lewis. Thanks to everyone who made this event such a success for the BEF.

Funds are also raised through a silent auction of items from corporate and individual sponsors like: CueStix International, Hawley’s Billiard Stores, Ewa Lawrence, Jeanette Lee, Mike Massey, New Billiard Games, Viking Cue Manufacturing and Willard’s Cue Products. Event sponsors include Hawley’s Billiard Stores, New Billiard Games, Olhausen and PoolDawg.com.
